Hi there!

Welcome to my blog! I am a passionate plant-based animal lover on the journey to discovering how to be more Kind in my choices. This blog is the insight to my journey.

Supercharged Oats'n Berries

Supercharged Oats'n Berries

This is another one of the "911 solution" recipes. Super quick and easy. Really refreshing and delicious. Obviously healthy. And with few additional ingridients perfect for bouncing back after a strenuous work out.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup of dry oats
  • 1 banana
  • 2 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1/3 cup blueberries
  • 1/3 cup rasberries
  • 1 cup of hemp milk*
  • Optional: walnuts, coconut flakes

* I made my own hemp milk, which I will explain how below. But you can also use any other non-dairy milk of your choice if you don't feel like messing with it.

What to do:

Throw it all together in a bowl. That's it. Isn't it awesome?!

If you prefer step by step, here is how I layer mine:

1. Cover chia seeds with the non-dairy milk of your choice in a small bowl and stick in the fridge while you are working on the rest of ingredients. It will let them swell a bit and turn into a pudding-like substance.

Quick note on Chia seeds:

Chia seeds are superfood. Loaded with antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids, healthy carbs, protein, calcium and other vitamins and minerals they are great for endurance training. So don't be shy.

2. Put your dry oats in a bowl and pour the milk over it. No need to cook. Just let it be for a few minutes while you pile all the other goodness on top.

3. Top with blueberries, raspberries, cut up a banana, top with a few walnuts and coconut flakes.

4. Take out your chia seed mixture out of the fridge and pour on top. Enjoy!

Now back to the hemp milk.

I made my own, which is also easy, inexpensive and fast. You can make some in advance and keep in a fridge for "I'm-starving-feed-me-now!" emergencies.

But first, why Hemp seeds?

Hemp seed is extremely nutritious food. It is a complete protein: it contains all of 20 known amino acids, including 9 essential amino acids which our bodies cannot produce.
It fights inflammation, improves blood circulation, aids recovery from disease or injury, increases energy, and is loaded with vitamins.

Making your own hemp seed milk is a good way to get more of this stuff in your diet. You can also sprinkle it on your salads, add to sandwiched or smoothies.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp raw shelled hemp seeds
  • 2-4 dates for sweetness
  • Dash of vanilla extract
  • 1 glass of water
  • Optional: 1 tsp cacao powder to make a chocolate variety

What to do:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a blender.
  2. Blend. :)

I keep mine in small mason jars. Hemp seed milk is really easy to make so I don't make too much at a time. It should be good in a fridge for several days.
